A DETAILED LESSON PLAN MATHEMATICS 7 I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to: a) determine the value of the numerical expressions using PEMDAS; b) evaluate algebraic expressions for given values of the variables; and c) simplify algebraic expressions with speed and accuracy. II. SUBJECT MATTER Topic: Evaluate Algebraic Expressions (M7AL-IIC-4) Reference: MELCS Exploring Mathematics Elementary Algebra by Orlando Orance pages 215-218 Time Allotment: 1 hour Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, TV, bond paper, colored paper and box. III. PROCEDURE Teacher’s Activity A. Daily Routine a) Prayer b) Greetings c) Checking of attendance d.) State the objectives.

Students Activity (one of the students will lead the prayer)

At the end of the lesson, the students must be able to: a) determine the value of the numerical expressions using PEMDAS; b) evaluate algebraic expressions for given values of the variables; and c) simplify algebraic expressions with speed and accuracy. B. Activity To meet these objectives let’s have an activity. “TAMA KA, MAY POINT KA” INSTRUCTION: I have here a box with strip of papers with your names. I will pick a strip of papers who will recite and if you got the correct answer you have a chance to pick a strip of papers in the other box. A box with strip of papers with different colors. Pink - 5 points, Red-3 points, and white-1 point. But if you got wrong someone will steal. You are all given a chance to recite throughout the activities and earn points at the end of class. Picture the strips you have and send it to me through messenger. Activity 1: Simplify Me!

Direction: Simplify the following numerical expressions : 1. 25 + 15 = ?

2. 5 x 12 – 10 = ?

1. 40

3. 105 x 2 = ?

2. 50

4. 3 ( 2 + 3) = ?

3. 1

5. 10( 5 - 3) = ?

4. 15

The activity is a prerequisite for our lesson for today that is

5. 5

Evaluating Algebraic Expressions. C. Analysis: Examples: 1. Evaluate a+5 when a=2.

Very good! How did you get it?

2. Evaluate b-5 when b=10.

You are correct! (Student name) can you explain, how do we get 5?

7

a+5 2+5; substitute 2 for a. 7 5

3. Evaluate 5x when x=-6

b-5 10-5; substitute10 for b. 5

Excellent! Explain, how did you get -30?(pick a name)

-30

4. If x = 7, what is 21x? (Student name) explain, how did you get 3?

5x 5(-6); substitute -6 for x. -30

Very good!

3 217; substitute 7 for x 3

Did you understand it class?

Yes ma’am. C. Abstraction Let’s try this activity. Activity 2. What’s My Value!

1. What is the value of L + O 5, O = 3, V = 2, and E=1. 2. If y = 10, what is 5y + 12?

V + E, if L 1. 7

3. Evaluate C ÷ O + V – I + D when C=9, O = 3, V = 5, I = 2 and D =1.

2. 62

4. If C = 10, A = 1, R = 2 and E = 10, what is CA+RE?

3. 7

5. Evaluate 5(a-5) when a=15.

4. 30

Based from the activity, how do you evaluate algebraic expressions?

5. 50

D. Application Now class, bring out a sheet paper and do the activity. After answering, picture your answer and open your data, open your data, go to browser or Google then, click search and type classpoint.com. Click class point app-enter class code and join! Enter the code and your Name class. Then click join. Activity 3. Compare Me! ( 15 minutes)

(possible answer) To evaluate an algebraic expression, substitute a number for the variable and simplify.

Direction: Compare the value of the following expressions when x = 2, y =1 and z = 4. 1. x + 1 + y _____ x – 1 - y 2. y - x ______ x + y 3. 2 – 3 + x ______ 2 + 3 - z 4. z + 2 – y ______ z – 2 + y 5. x – z _____ z + x 6. 2x – 4 _____ 2x ÷ 2 7. 3(y +5) _____ 5y + 3 8. 24 – z _____ z – 24 9. x + y + z _____ xyz 10. x (y – z) _____ (x –y) + z The time starts now class. Students start answering. (After 10 minutes) Times up class! Stop answering and send it on class point class. IV. Evaluation Let’s take another activity class. Activity 4. Protocol: New Normal Direction: Evaluate each algebraic

Yes ma’am (the student will send it in class point).

expression, Match column A to column B, You are going to write only the letters that corresponds to the value of each algebraic...
